Review of minutes: approved unanimously
Treasurers Report: Question regarding what is classified as 'development' and how 'development' differs from 'fund raising.' Discussion resulted in the finding that 'development' consists mainly of fund raising along with minor items which could be added to 'administration.' Further discussion resulted in more recategorizing. The previous restructuring of the reports has improved clarity of information. Current suggested changes (which will be gone over by Felicia and Jason) are of a minor stylistic nature also designed to increase clarity.
Director's Report: Report will be posted to the Wiki June 1st. It will be in the format that was used by Walter.
Currator's Report: 'Hear Me Now' exhibit exceeded MAK's expectations. Karen Pearson will be dropping off work from kids later today (May 31st) which will run for a week. Setheyny's show (Seduce Me) is ready to go. This summer we will have our first Artist In Residence.
Marketing Report: Sushi Smackdown is next Sunday (June 7th). Promotional efforts need to increase at this time. Felicia suggested adding a 'Buy Tickets Now' button to website, offered tech help (accepted).
Press contacts and postcard distribution were discussed.
We have a permit to do ArtBeat event at Armory Part on July 18th from 1-8pm. Concerns were voiced about potential misunderstandings with neighborhood residents about use of spraypaint and whether the event should be open-participation or contained environment. It was decided to discuss the event further with Corey to develop a more detailed plan.
Mira is technically leaving, but plans to continue helping (much appreciated).
We still need a display case.
Development and Community Report.
Small grant for soundscape project was turned down. We will look into green-related grants.
119 was asked to partake in discussions regarding the forming of the Lowell Cultural Center proposal and did attend said discussions. Due to the proposal involving a potential relocation 119 has minimal interest at this time.
Sushi Smackdown
Chefs and judges are all lined up. Location has been secured (All Gallery). Sogo and Lowell Beerworks are on as sponsors. LTC will be covering. Clean-up crew needed. There is a concern regarding the lack of an on-site restroom, we will be using LTC's restroom.
CTC VISTA grant: approved but we (along with many other organizations) missed the cutoff. We will not have a VISTA person this year.
Interns: It was discovered that we were accidentally sending our request for a UML intern to a dead account. Proper and current contact information was provided by Jeff.
E is meeting with Middlesex to discuss their service learning program for the fall.
Folk Fest exhibit plan. This will be another ArtBeat project. We would like to have video and pictures taken of the event. Mike mentioned that a detailed discussion needs to be held regarding space logistics to ensure that there is enough space for painters and dancers.
Promotional efforts and how to get people from downtown to the gallery were discussed. Donation buckets and trinket sales were brought up.
Gallery will be closed in August for floor repair and vacation.
Mike will be redoing mural at end of summer.
Claire (dancing) and Patrick (sculpture) who will have a progressive installation have expressed an interest in working with other artists.
Various calendar changes were discussed.
Next meeting: June 28th, noon.
