Old Business
1) Review of minutes from May 31, 2009 (Steve)
Approved by all.
2) Treasurer's Report (Jason)
We are roughly $10,000 short for the year.
Rent went down $250/month to $1500/month
Question raised regarding Greater Lowell Community Foundation endowment, Anstiss (accountants for GLCF letter seems to imply that it is only $5000 and not $6250 (initial $5000 grant plus $1250 matching). Jason will check in with GLCF on this matter.
Report approved by all.
3) Director's Report (YSok)
Both exhibits in June were well attended.
YSok and Walter attended further discussion meeting regarding the proposed Lowell Cultural Center at the corner of Dutton and Market with other organizations involved (meeting called by LZ Nunn). It was felt that the meeting itself was more about the needs of other potential partners rather than what such a center would bring to the artists community as a whole, however the project is moving quickly, investors have been found and it is a good location. Pros and cons of the 119 becoming involved with this project were discussed.
New music: Brief discussion on how to market the non-traditional performances we offer to increase attendance.
4) Curator's Report (Mary Ann)
We need fliers, post cards for ArtBeat in Armory Park. Concern raised about artists level of awareness that the paintings will be on display.
MAK with contact Nick regarding juried show.
5) Marketing Committee Report (Mira)
Mira will be training new intern (Laura). Laura's availability appears to vary.
An email was sent to Joe who helped out for a couple of weeks in the spring to see if he'd like to come back as a volunteer.
Mira will still be around as a volunteer to some extent.
Facebook page currently has 422+ members.
Mira is still writing the how-to manual for the job she's done.
Mira is leaving July 12. She liked being here.
Discussion of the need for a curator's FAQ or submission questionairre for artists.
"Thank you Mira for everything you’ve done for the gallery - for putting us on the map, for bringing in a young dynamic group of people, for helping to build our community in a number of unique and creative ways."-W2
We need to give Mira a suitable send off … PARTY!
6) Development Committee Report (Walter)
Working on NEA narrative.
Sent proposals to Jim and Alex Ruthmann for interns to help with gallery programming, recording XFest and publishing a CD, etc.
Sushi Smackdown: Really fun, but we lost money primarily due to over-ordering (we paid $800 for sushi, previous years were closer to $300).
UML Intern: We have had difficulty reaching instructors.
Folk Festival: no plans for a downtown presence during festival.
Plans for new mural by Mike Dailey, need to raise money for supplies and find volunteers to help.
Closing August:Need to find someone to repair & refinish the floors between August 3 & August 16. Work on the exterior.
