Summary Jan - Dec 2007 [updated from last report]

119 Gallery had 7 major exhibitions and 3 guerilla shows. I estimate that 410 people attended our exhibitions during gallery hours and receptions. I would like to have more guerilla shows in 2008.

Yoga classes ran regularly throughout the year. Dance classes ran Jan–Oct. We had 3 Master’s Classes including 1 for kids. Approximately 900 people attended the classes.

Music events included 26 by local (and regional) bands, produced by Dan Adam; 15 new music shows featuring national and international performers; 8 noise shows produced by Andy Phelps; and 3 multimedia performances: A total of 52 music events that brought approximately 1800 people to the gallery. Dance events included 12 dance parties; 2 contact jams; and 3 dance theater events: A total of 18 dance events that brought approximately 360 people to the gallery (A number of private parties were dance events featuring Cambodian DJs). Film/Video events included 5 screenings: Approximately 75 people attended. (I’m not counting Chick’s Flicks). Multimedia events, 8 performances, brought approximately 200 people to the gallery.

There was 1 Poetry event, and 3-4 Other Special Events attended by approximately 200 people.

There were 16 Private Parties attended by approximately 850 people.

I added three columns to the table –

1)      Avg  or average attendance per event,

2)      Income  or average income per event,

3)      Expenses or estimated cost per event.

Parties generate the most income per event and Exhibitions are our most expensive events. As a gallery, we need to support our exhibitions. One way of looking at it is that profits from other events supports the shows and pays for advertising, receptions, facilities rental, and gallery sitting. This is a nice idea but, at the moment, other events are breaking even (paying for facilities rental and related expenses).

In 2008, the education program may bring in enough to cover the exhibition program. This seems like a workable solution. We received a 2008 LCC grant of $3000 to jumpstart the education program. We also received a second LCC grant to cover expenses for 1 exhibition. In addition we are seeking sponsors for other exhibitions.

I listed several additional weekly series and one-time classes in my email. Once the quarterly classes in networking, video and sound are up and running, I will add classes during the week. Some one-time classes are on the schedule and some are not. I will add these classes as soon as possible.

The quad-fold brochure needs updating but will be ready by the end of next week – subject to feedback from class instructors.

Self-Evaluation:

I emailed my self-evaluation to the board, responses to Felicia.
