Events: How can we bring in more people, continued -

1)      People come to see someone they already know – include local artists in exhibits and events. We have done this and it works.

2)      Offer discussions/lecturers related to exhibits – Ken’s lectures quite successful – bring groups in on Sat/Sun afternoons – Curator to give talks to ALL – seek sponsorship from LCC and COOL –

3)      Emphasize areas not covered by other arts organizations – performance art, contemporary music, computers and new media – dance and movement.

4)      Curator to deliver lectures ALL, UML, MCC on contemporary art – develop image of Curator as community intellectual 8^)

5)      Cut down on number of events, keep those that work, dump those that don’t work …

a)      What’s working – Burlesque, Sushi Smackdown, and Vagina Monologues because they are entertainment, one-offs and involve lots of locals. Artist/Model failed to attract people (despite the nude model) because it wasn’t entertainment.

b)      What’s NOT working – music, video and dance. These are more challenging events and they involve visiting artists.

6)      Pandering?

Workshops and Classes: Building up classes –

1)      One-offs bring in the most people (once) and the most money.

2)      Partnering not pandering

a)      Hyun Ju’s video class went well but it was an informal arrangement

b)      Talked to John Shirley, somewhat encouraging …

c)      Sent email to the Provost re Media and Communications Initiative

d)      Talked to Bridget about media and performance …

Financials:

1)      Submitted 3 grants this past week for approx $9000.

a) LCC Masters’ Classes

b) LCC Scrolls for Spring 2007

c) Sovereign Foundation for operating expenses.

2)      Form a Development Committee

3)      Help with grant writing.

4)      Refinish floor and repaint ceiling (over holidays)
