Events: The biggest ‘event’ of the past month was last night’s punk rock show organized by Setheyny as a 119 Gallery Benefit. She raised $100 and produced a great show. Thanks Setheyny. A number of people, both audience and band members, thanked 119 for providing a space for independent music open to all ages. The audience and bands seemed to be in the 18 to 24 year old age group with some younger and some older. Some are still school; most are not. They seem like a young ‘disaffected’ working class looking to create a cultural alternative.

The most successful event was the 2nd Annual Juried Show. We have approximately 45 new members and in the process raised close to $1,500. I don’t necessarily rate success in terms of $$$ but at the moment $$$ are needed to pay the rent, utilities and insurance.

The Programming Committee met a couple of weeks ago. I’m still recovering. I think Sam took notes and when I get them I’ll send them out then get back with the Programming Committee. I appointed some new associate directors – Mark Henderson and Dan Adams, Music Directors; Heather McQuiston, Dance Director; and Matt Studivan, Thespian. Mark and Dan will book music events. Heather will continue to build her program. I’m anxious to see what Matt comes up with.

I spent most of time this month working on the show. This included accepting entries, notifying the artists of the juror’s decisions, and hanging the accepted works. I was helped this past month by Mary Bet Norton, a volunteer, and Jane Wiseheart, an intern from UML. Mary Beth assisted in accepting the work. Jane assisted by taking over the news pages on the website. So far, we have an up-to-date news page, a new membership page, and a new contacts page.

Workshops and Classes: This past Wednesday I was on the ‘Museum Professionals Panel’ hosted by Hillary Holiday at UML. The panel included Michael Creasey from the National Parks, and representatives from the Addison Museum and Plymouth Colony. Jerry Beck had a migraine.

Jon Brandi and Heather started new class series. Jon’s Yoga class was written up in last weeks Steppin’ Out.

Financials: I learned how to enter data into Quicken. We need to appoint a new Treasurer. I can’t do it; neither can Mary Ann. We need to get to work fundraising.

Heather McQuiston, OUtlET and the Boys and Girls Club submitted grants to the LCC for programming at our Gallery.
