Educational Program 2007
Sun April 1 12-3pm Traditional Music Brunch/Fundraiser: Kickoff for the Educational Program, our goal is to raise $5000 for 4 laptops.
Types:
1) Ongoing classes including Jon Brandi’s Yoga classes and Heather’s Ballet and Modern class. Jon’s classes meet Tuesday night at 6:30pm and Saturday morning at 9:00am. Heather’s dance class meets Sunday morning at 10:30am. Yoga has been running for over a year, and the dance class since June, 2006.
2) Monthly classes including web, video, and sound classes. I propose three web classes – Build Your Own Website, Building Online Communities, and Podcasting; three video classes – Basic Video, DIY Video Production, and Video Mixing; and three sound classes – Sound Art, DIY Music Production, Sound Mixing. Video Mixing (VJing) and Sound Mixing (DJing) would be offered back to back and wrap up with a performance by the participants. We might also run monthly events such as –Surrender, jazz night, music and dance jams, a contact jam, a film/video night, etc.
3) Masters classes including Motion-triggered Video and Sound with Andrea Pensado and Greg Kowalski, Art-Energy with John Voigt, Video History with Sherry Miller-Hocking, and Creative Movement with Debra Bluth. These classes, all offered in 2007, are being partially supported with a grant from the LCC and MCC. Additional masters classes include – Imaging Place/Second Life with John Craig Freeman, DIY Zines with OUtlET, Circuit Bending with Phoebe, Sound Improvisation with Vic Rawlings, Moving to Bowed Metal Music with Matt Samolis, Peter Warren and Joe Burgio, DIY Analog Synthesis with Jessica Rylan, Contact Improvisation with Patrick Crowley. In addition to the master’s classes we have artist’s talks, curator’s talks, and special events such as Boston Cyberarts Festival, Grass Roots Radio Festival, Kerouac Festival, etc.
Schedule:
I propose starting with two or three classes a month. Classes would run on Saturday 10am - 4pm with a break for lunch. Felicia suggested that we ask Ely if she would be willing to cater lunch. Class size would be limited to 12 participants and cost $30 [I suggest $50 or $60 per participant with a discount for 119 Gallery members - this is a deal for a 6 hour class with lunch see below a break down of the "real" costs of offering this - we should assume that there may be closer to 6-8 persons enrolled in the class and our fees should at some point make sure to cover all costs ]. We could also connect with the Elders community to get their participation in the classes. Maybe with partial funding by the Senior Centers. Three classes would bring in as much as $900 per month. Masters classes and special events can be funded.
Schedule information goes to the 119 mail list and the ALL list. We should also send info to New England Film, NAMAC, AIM, Boston Media Makers, LEF, UML, MassArt, Lesley, and Boston Dance Alliance.

Space $50 /hr 6 /hr $300
Lunch $10/pers 12 / per $120
Materials $5 / pers 12 / per $ 60

Cost per person (w/ 10 persons) $75
Cost per person (w/8 persons) $89
Cost per person (w/ 6 persons) $113
Cost per person (w/ 4 person) $160
Perhaps the classes could happen in two two-hour blocks with a break for lunch in between.
This might be more attractive to participants, and lower overhead costs of instructor and space rental.
Would the materials costs really only add-up to $5? h
